Capital Credits: GCEC Returns Nearly $3,600,000 to Members

Gulf Coast Electric Cooperative (GCEC) is a member-owned, nonprofit organization. At the end of each year—after all operating expenses have been paid—a prorated portion of its margins, known as capital credits, is allocated to members based on the amount they paid for electricity during the year.

Each year, the board of trustees decides whether to refund capital credits and how much to refund, guided by the co-op’s overall financial health.

Recently, GCEC refunded nearly $3 million in capital credits with an additional $600,000 distributed to the estates of deceased members.

Capital credits are 1 of the many ways GCEC strives to serve and reward its members. It’s your co-op—and we’re proud to return these margins to you.
