Attaching items to power poles endangers lives

Power poles stand in convenient places to hang yard sale, political and event signs. Poles are sometimes even located perfectly for mounting satellite dishes, hunting stands or bird feeders. Unfortunately, many people aren’t aware of the dangers associated with hanging these items on power poles.

It is not only a violation of the National Electrical Safety Code and illegal to hang and attach items to power poles, but it is dangerous for those who hang them and for the line technicians who perform work on the poles.

Things attached to power poles are extremely close to energized lines with thousands of volts of electricity pulsing through them.

Line technicians must climb power poles at all times of the day and night in whatever weather conditions may be present. A tack, nail or staple used to hang items from the pole can create obstacles for technicians. These items can cause small punctures in their rubber gloves and make them susceptible to electrocution. Climbing gear used by workers can also get caught on the tacks, nails or staples and cause them to fall.
