Commitment to Community

Tupelo honey was the star of the show at the annual Legislative Cookout in Tallahassee.

As a Touchstone Energy cooperative, one of our core values is commitment to community. One of the 7 cooperative principles is Concern for Community.

One way we exemplify this value and principle is to participate in community events.

Gulf Coast Electric Cooperative recently participated in a career fair at Port St. Joe High School. The career fair was for juniors and seniors at PSJHS and Wewahitchka High School. These students had the opportunity to talk to our employees and learn about the job opportunities an electric cooperative offers.

Gulf Coast Electric Cooperative, along with other electric cooperatives from across the state, also participated in the annual Legislative Cookout. The cookout is held in Tallahassee, and each co-op serves food for which its service area is known. GCEC employees served shrimp with a Tupelo Honey dipping sauce and gave away small bottles of local tupelo honey. This event is attended by Florida’s government officials, legislators and their staff and aides and is an important avenue for maintaining relationships with those who represent the interests of electric cooperatives and their members.

Gulf Coast Electric Cooperative also had a booth at Tyndall Air Force Base’s annual Eggstravaganza on Saturday of Easter weekend. This event is for active-duty Air Force members and their families stationed at TAFB. Approximately 700 children enjoyed pictures with the Easter Bunny, giveaways, face painting, music, sno-cones, bounce houses and, of course, egg hunts. Gulf Coast Electric Cooperative also sponsored a lunch at Southport Elementary School as part of Teacher Appreciation Week.

We are proud to be a part of and support our local communities.
